I would just like to say thank-you to the staff for serving us a delicious bowl of cauliflower cheese soup, with one of the nicest chunks of granary bread I have ever eaten. We very nearly missed that treat because we were told you stopped serving hot food at 1500. Thankfully the ladies did not suffer from jobsworth syndrome and just asked if we’d mind waiting five minutes for the soup to be heated adequately. Three cheers ladies for your decision. Dear Monks Yard, THANK YOU! The children, staff and parents would like to thank you very much for your generosity in donating a prize for our Christmas Raffles. We had two very successful events ‘Crafty Christmas’ at the end of November, when children were able to make gifts and decorations for Christmas, and the children’s Nativity Play at the end of term. It was really kind of you and these sort of donations are very generous. You kindly raised £410 on the day and the RLNI Taunton Branch have decided to ask for the monies to go directly towards the Burnham on Sea £41,000 Lifeboat Appeal for a new D Class Inshore Lifeboat. Dear Dean and Rebecca Thank you again for your extremely generous donation yesterday as well as your generous hospitality. I enjoyed talking to many of your customers, new, occasionals and very regulars, they were all extremely complimentary about your café and those who were not aware of it, were most impressed when I explained about your community days and hence the reason for me being there with the RNLI adornments.. I have banked a total of £410 from the takings and the collection bucket which really is a fantastic amount and was a day I very much enjoyed. I have confirmed with our Area Community Representative that we can direct this to the Burnham Lifeboat Appeal and am shortly to contact them with the good news. Hi Eleanor, We had such a wonderful meet on Saturday at MY!! Three sisters, from Cornwall, Somerset and Norfolk, and my daughter in law from Salisbury! We used Monks Yard as a venue for a conference for teaching assistants. Having not arranged such a large conference before, we were slightly anxious about the logistics and organisation involved with so many delegates and speakers. However, we need not have worried. Rebecca made sure that everything was in place and really thought of everything we might need. Nothing was too much trouble and she and her team were around all day to ensure that our day went smoothly. The lunch and refreshments were a great hit with the delegates as was the venue as a whole. I have just got in and I wanted to let you know straight away what a brilliant day we’ve had. Everyone at The Monks Yard was so friendly and helpful (even to the providing of a capo!) and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms we used were perfect for our requirements with everywhere spotless,warm and comfortable. The food was wonderfully tasty (compliments to whoever made the quiche- it was delicious) and was just the right amount – everyone had enough and there was nothing left over. The selection of afternoon drinks was also greatly appreciated. So please pass on our thanks to everyone from all of us at Sherborne Community Church. You obviously have a great team!

Yesterday our daughter was married at nearby South Petherton and the reception was at Monks Yard. We have to say that we had a great time and without exception our guests were highly complimentary about every aspect of the venue and overall experience. Of particular note were the friendly and supportive staff. This of course is very important on such occasions with every request being responded to positively. Activities included speeches in a separate area with managed PA system, food and tables likewise. The band was housed in an open barn and a disco was also cared for. It was really nice that the younger members could enjoy themselves in the open court yard whilst the more senior were able to relax in one of the many adjoining areas. If you are looking for flexible arrangements with something for all ages this is the place for you. Many thanks Rebecca and Andrew for helping make the special day an event to remember.

Being local to the Monks Yard is what can only be described as a bonus, I try to spend my occasional weekday day off lunchtime here, with friends or family, the relaxed atmosphere and welcoming staff make Monks Yard a lovely place to spend an hour or two, with a smallish but lovely, home cooked rustic type menu there is always something to take your fancy whether it be a coffee and a cake, sandwich or a hot meal, they cater for everyone, I hear they do fantastic events throughout the year, as well as boasting a very capable conference and training facility. If you’re ever driving through Ilminster, and want something different to the usual chained pub grub meal or Burger King, then I urge you try Monks Yard, I would be amazed if you were disappointed.

I have been using the excellent facilities at Monks Yard for the last 4 years for meetings and events involving health professionals from all over the county. The unique peaceful atmosphere at Monks Yard is coupled with the efficiency and friendly attitude of the staff. Nothing is too much trouble and you are always made welcome. New attendees at Monks yard always comment that it is a lovely environment. I would recommend Monks Yard both for business and for pleasure, the cakes in the cafe cannot be resisted

As we live locally, we have been here lots of times for coffee, lunches and birthday cream teas. We have never, ever been disappointed. Came today with my Mum for lunch. Arrived at 12 md and the place was buzzing! Found a table easily and had a delicious lunch. The staff were so helpful and kind. Smiling and happy. They all looked like they really loved their jobs – I’d be happy too if I worked here!!! We are so lucky to have Monks Yard nearby. The food is so different to any other eateries in the area. Really trendy, healthy stuff. No chicken nuggets or burgers here! Today, I saw young children eating GOOD FOOD, not the rubbish you usually find on a children’s menu. The only nod to normal pub/café food is the chips. A bowl of thrice cooked golden chips! I have NEVER had better chips. Yum!

This was my first visit to The Monks Yard thanks to a family member, and what a lovely little place! We arrived for lunch at noon and by late afternoon were still there. The food was delicious and atmosphere welcoming, at no point did we feel we over stayed our welcome. I have already recommended you to friends and can’t wait for my next visit!

We have just had a lovely lunch at the Monks Yard cafe. The building is light airy and really clean. I loved the photographs on the wall. The lunch was home cooked and delicious and very reasonable priced. The beetroot and sweet potato tart topped with grilled goats cheese was so yummy I am going to try to replicate it at home. Coffee very good too. (The toilets also were scrupulously clean)

Good morning Dean I have now done the sums for the craft fair and am delighted to tell you that I will be sending a cheque for £600 to Ferne (animal sanctuary) from profits from bookings plus another £270 from my sales to a couple of cancer charities. I work in Taunton and have colleagues in South Somerset, so we often meet here for coffee/lunch and a quick relaxed meeting or catch up. Food is great, good portions and lovely coffee. I like the small range of crafts on sale, and the cakes are a yummy treat. Staff are always friendly. Been to a couple of conferences here as well and not known there to be any problems. Ignore the overpriced road cafes and Little Chefs and stop here, you will not be disappointed.

Not only were the ingredients fresh, tasty and imaginatively put together but the meal was generous, too (so rare nowadays)-even the coffee. A very pleasureable experience at a competitive price. Thank you so very much for helping to make our party such a huge success,we had a brilliant time for so many reasons. Having everything ready so that we didn’t have to do anything,was perfect,the food was outstandingly good and even the weather was warm and pleasant so we could make full use of outside. It has left us with many fabulous memories which will last a lifetime. We can not begin to express how grateful all of you were from talking through ideas with Nikki,to getting all those t-lights lit and staying up to clear away after we finally left the building! Our grandson,who was quite frankly,the star of the evening,loved every minute of it and at midnight I was reading him a bedtime story to help him calm down enough to sleep!!

I am delighted to have discovered your wonderful cafe on a journey last tuesday. (we discovered you by accident – we missed the services entrance and went on to yours – thank goodness!) I had the most delicious chai tea at monk\’s yard. Loads of different spices and flavours in it! what brand do you use and is it fairtrade? I want to buy some for home use if poss. About a mile from A303 near Ilminster, ideal stop for coffee or lunch. Very good “specials” menu and a standard menu of wide range of light lunches – all food freshly prepared good coffee. Nice building and shelter out door area developed from old farm building, also a conference centre. Very friendly, helpful staff

Hi there I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your team for looking after us so well yesterday, the venue you have is wonderful and the way you looked after us was great, we all enjoyed the food and for someone who is very used to having to take my own food to events as Coeliacs aren’t catered for, to not only get a delicious lasagne for lunch but also a gorgeous piece of chocolate cake in the afternoon was a real treat, thank you so much.
